Dear Donors:
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,Nothing is going to get better. It's not.” - Dr. Seuss, The Lorax
Thanks to each one of you for being 'someone who cares'. Your donation has allowed us to continue to develop a life changing, state-of-the-art leadership training program to high school students with fluency disorders.
One new camper, “Dan”, entering his senior year of high school would not have been able to attend his first session of the 'Leader-in-Training' (LIT) program were it not for the dedication of his school based speech pathologist and caring people who donated to Camp Shout Out through GlobalGiving.
When we told “Dan” and his speech pathologist that we would be able to provide a scholarship this is the email we received back from him:
“I am overjoyed that I will be able to attend Camp Shout Out this summer, I have never met another person who stutters and I believe this program is a perfect match for me. I can’t wait, thank you so much for everything.”
Let me share with you an experience that "Dan" had at Camp Shout Out that will change his life forever.
When 'Dan' first arrived at camp and tried to introduce himself, he had difficulty saying his name because of his stutter. Before he could get his name out, both his mother and grandmother said his name for him. This happened frequently to 'Dan' at home and at school. During the week of camp, Dan was given a challenge to practice introducing himself to others 100 times. He met this challenge, but the most exciting thing happened on the last day of camp. Dan watched carefully for the arrival of his mother and grandmother, when he spotted their car he walked up to the parking lot at the top of the hill and waited for them to park. He gave them each a hug and then smiled and very respectfully said, "I want you to know that from now on I want to be the person who says my own name, so please never say my name for me when somebody asks, just wait until I get it out"
We knew that Camp Shout Out would change “Dan’s” life and it did, by helping him find his own voice!
We thank you for your continued support. We hope you will continue with us on this journey as together, we help change the world for children who stutter, and help children who stutter change the world!
