Dear All:
Thank you so much for your support of our Buy Two Laptops for a South African Computer Lab project to serve a primary school in the Eastern Cape. Your donation kickstarted the initiative, and with the money raised, we will be able to fund nearly two of the 30 laptops the school requires. Thank you so much for your generosity and compassion.
The primary school serves 450 children in an extremely poor region of South Africa. Many of the children's guardians are either unemployed or earn a barely survivable wage; when they do have funds, the guardians often use them to feed their children, and educational investments suffer.
That's one of the many reasons that Universal Promise has focused exclusively on academic opportunity in this area, because we fully support Nelson Mandela's characterization of education: the most powerful weapon we may use to change the world.
The photo that accompanies this report is of the second computer laboratory we built in the region: this one for a local high school. These investments moved the learners from 0% to 100% computer literacy in a short period of time. Such mastery is required for success in the twenty-first century, and you are now a vital part of what will be that same progress when our next lab comes to fruition. Many thanks for your altruism and empathy.
Best wishes,
Martha T. Cummings
