Several Raising A Reader (RAR) sites do not have dedicated libraries for children and families to use. This project allows RAR to build classroom libraries for these sites. The libraries will consist of specific book titles and genres to match the needs and interests of the children served.
Through your generous support, library sets will be sent to select classrooms across the country providing vital literacy materials and supports for 425 vulnerable U.S. children and families. These libraries will allow children and familes to access more high-quality books not typically found in traditional school libraries.
Raising A Reader has helped more than 1.5 million families develop, practice, and maintain the habit of sharing books. While the program can be found in traditional classroom settings, it is also found in home visiting programs, community childcare centers, preschool programs, before and after school programs, state-wide early childhool programs, libraries, parenting programs, faith-based organizations, adult education programs, workplace benefit programs, and subsidized housing communities.
Each setting is unique and helps RAR reach more families each year. Each agency is committed to early literacy and family engagement, however, they do not have dedicated libraries on site. Thanks to your support, RAR will be able to provide enough books to build libraries!
