All of us at Central London Samaritans would like to thank you once again for your kind donation to our winter appeal.
Our branch was able to keep open throughout the festive period. Our volunteers gave up their time, even on Christmas Day, to ensure we were there for anyone who needed us.
We know the cost-of-living crisis has been making things extra hard for lots of people. We have seen a small, sustained increase in calls for help from people with financial worries. We’re also hearing anecdotal evidence from our volunteers that people are contacting Samaritans because they’re worried about the rising cost of living.
Suicide is an inequality issue – people on the lowest incomes have a higher suicide risk than those who are wealthier, and people on lower incomes are also the most affected by rising prices and other types of financial hardship.
The cost-of-living crisis is affecting people in many ways; impacting people’s mental health is just one of them.
Throughout December 2022, we responded to 2085 calls, 539 emails and 54 webchats.
Your donation has been crucial and allowed us to keep our phone line open. Every call we answer could be the one that saves or changes someone's life - the call that ends with someone finding the strength to carry on.
