Since mid-March, Atzin has mounted a strategic campaign to address covid-19, a crisis that will take a serious toll among the most vulnerable in Tlamacazapa.
Atzin health promoters, all young local women, are talking to each family, street by street throughout the village, explaining the crisis and the prevention of illness. They have handed out flyers on correct hand-washing, given out soap, and discussed home care of family members with symptoms.
Our seven seamstresses immediately shifted to sewing cloth face masks, aiming for 5,000 masks for distribution. Scouring markets for beans and lentils in quantity, the Atzin team is distributing food to the more than 400 families who are in greatest need.
