Dear friend,
Thanks to your support, the team at NG Albania spent a lot of time this fall setting up a pilot incentive program for Amaro Tan School. A thoughtful approach was required to maximize the chance of this program succeeding. We wanted to make sure we were incentivizing the right behaviors, and incentivizing them appropriately. We arrived at a clear, simple structure of rewarding attendance, homework, grades and volunteering with grocery vouchers. The vouchers will allow parents to choose what they buy, with some exclusions such as alcohol and tobacco products.
In December, prior to the start of the winter trimester in January, the Amaro Tan team held a parent meeting to explain the parameters of the program. 60 parents showed up! The team had to split the meeting into two sessions to accommodate this overwhelming interest. Marin Piqoni, who has run Amaro Tan since 2016, reports that the parents were enthusiastic and optimistic, and excited to give this program a try.
The Amaro Tan team will be monitoring student attendance and performance, and comparing it against attendance and performance in fall 2021. We are hopeful that we will see improvements by the end of the year, and will share those results with you.
Thank you for your generosity, which has allowed Amaro Tan to try something different to improve outcomes for their students. If you would like to continue supporting education programs in Albania, our education campaign is a great way to do it!
All the best,
Sarah Pita
