Dear Friends--
This spring, in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19, all of Albania went into lockdown for three months. Schools closed, many businesses temporarily shut their doors, and non-essential activities outside the home were strictly limited. This necessary measure was particularly difficult for people living in poverty and people with health conditions-- in Albania as everywhere else.
Thanks to your generous donations, in Pogradec and in Gjirokastër, Nehemiah Gateway was able to deliver over 1000 aid parcels to people in need. These bundles included food staples, cleaning supplies, and medicine. In addition to meeting basic material needs, these aid deliveries allowed NG staff to check in with students, soup kitchen clients, and regular visitors to our clinic, identifying additional challenges and meeting that most basic need for human contact.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 continues challenging us all, and for society's most vulnerable, staying safe from the virus is a problematic necessity. NG Albania continues bringing aid parcels to vulnerable people in southern Albania through our Food and Medicine for the Poor program. You can still support that program here.
With gratitude for your generosity,
Sarah Pita
