Parkinson Patients Support Organization-Ethiopia Is Committed To Strengthening Relationships

Kibra at Parkinson Patients Support-Ethiopia wanted to build stronger relationships between Parkinson’s patients and their caregivers. Read Kibra’s Listen, Act, Learn. Repeat. story to find out how she did it.

Listen

Parkinson Patients Support-Ethiopia has a singular purpose: improve the quality of life for Parkinson’s patients and their caregivers. So when its founder Kibra listened to feedback from her key constituents, she was concerned. Patients said caregivers were negligent. Caregivers said patients were disobeying their medical instructions. “This started to create a widening gap in understanding between the two groups,” Kibra said.

Act

To address the issue, Kibra launched a quarterly patient-caregiver forum. Through the forum, the two groups meet face-to-face to discuss ways to improve their relationship. Experts give presentations on medical best practices and role players demonstrate healthy patient-caregiver relationships.

Learn

In addition to quarterly forums, Kibra is now committed to identifying other opportunities for patients and caregivers to have guided discussions. She is impressed with the creative solutions that the process generates.

“Open and face-to-face discussions are worthwhile.”
— Kibra, Parkinson Patients Support Project Leader
