Curious how an API can power corporate philanthropy programs? We interviewed GlobalGiving’s Chief Product Officer to explore how companies use our free nonprofit API to power charitable apps and websites for companies around the world.
A: API stands for Application Programming Interface, a method for integrating one program into another app or website. For example, with GlobalGiving’s API, you can seamlessly build workplace giving programs directly into your app or website for your users to connect with vetted nonprofits rallying behind a specific cause, country, or region.
A: First, some background on GlobalGiving’s technology foundation might be helpful. Since 2002, GlobalGiving has funded more than 36,790 vetted charitable projects on its website and trusted donation platform. Companies want to help their customers and employees give to a good cause, but they often don’t want them to have to leave their website or app to make it happen.
That’s where GlobalGiving’s API comes in. Companies grant their users access to our portfolio of more than 7,000 nonprofits operating in 175+ countries when they integrate our free charity API into their website or app. The other main benefit? Users can simply give to a charity of their choice, and we’ll handle the rest.
A: Yes. Our nonprofit API enables any website to display charitable projects by country, region, and theme for purposes as varied as birthday celebrations to earthquake responses.

A: I prefer to show, not tell! Here are some of my favorite stories from real companies we’ve helped with our world-class API.
A: There are so many possibilities. They could integrate our charitable gift card API so their users can cash in their points for gift cards to be redeemed on GlobalGiving.org. Or they could integrate our catalog of vetted nonprofits and charitable projects to enable users to redeem points within their website or app. They can give back to communities who make or buy their products by processing donations with each purchase. Another idea is to start a loyalty program where they thank top customers with charitable gift cards.
A: With the GlobalGiving API, you can:
