Kukuza Uwezo Program aims to strengthen the capacity of Disabled People’s Organisations in Tanzania and Uganda to better serve their communities. In Swahili, “Kukuza Uwezo” means “we build our own capacity.”
We put people with disabilities in the lead and believe that collaboration is essential to successful capacity strengthening among Disabled People’s Organisations. Together, we believe we can create a stronger network of support for people with disabilities—one that is co-designed and adequately funded.
Increasing the capacity of DPOs to respond to the needs and rights of people with disabilities
Improving synergy within the disability sector and wider civil society
Increasing funder coordination and emergent funding streams for the sector
Building a body of evidence on effectiveness of network and organisational capacity strengthening models
Learning about the necessary sector conditions to accelerate community-led change
Our work is funded through the National Lottery Community Fund.
