Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria

On Monday, February 6, 2023, a strong 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck 23 kilometers (14 miles) east of Nurdagi, in the province of Gaziantep, Turkey. More than 100 aftershocks have been reported to include a 7.5 magnitude aftershock that occurred several hours after the initial quake, further weakening already compromised infrastructure.

The number of deaths are in the thousands with number of injured in the tens of thousands. Those numbers are expected to rise as rescue workers attempt to search the rubble for survivors. A three (3) month state of emergency has been declared by Turkey’s President Erdogan.

The local Crisis Management Team was activated after the initial quake and began accounting for local associates. At this time, all have confirmed their safety as well as 18 total travelers in the country of Turkey. Our nearest facilities are over 300 miles away in Ankara, with no damage reported.
