The Wellness Program is a feature of UWC Costa Rica. It consists of a school-wide initiative that fosters a culture of wellness -mental, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual -among all our community members.
Focused on prevention, detection, and intervention, the Wellness Program addresses both the culture and training of students and staff to take care of themselves and each other.
The Wellness Program offers basic mental health training to all students and staff members on campus that focuses on teenage psychology and promoting a culture of care and de-stigmatization. At the same time, it provides more advanced training to students, through the RA program, and to staff members in the Residence Coordinator and Tutor programs, to build stronger networks of peer and adult support for our students.
The program also offers all our students access to mental health professionals available both on and off-campus to offer emotional support, treatment, crisis intervention and referral when needed. At the same time, it expands the student's support network in Costa Rica through the Host Family program that connects them with local families who give them a family and a home away from home.
On prevention, the Wellness program hosts activities and events throughout the year focused on skill and community building and wellbeing. These activities include Noches de Postre (that address topics such as healthy sexuality, consent, alcohol consumption and more), the healthy lifestyle program that encourages students to participate in sports activities and break activities for students staying on campus during holidays.
To support the Wellness Program, we are calling on the UWC Costa Rica community to raise $14,000 that will support the program's training sessions, activities, and events.
