Hello Friends and Family,
Today is my 24th birthday and it comes at a time when we are being made starkly aware of the injustices and inequities that plague our societies. The COVID-19 pandemic and BLM protests have illuminated the need to reform our societies and support the communities that have suffered most over time.
The ongoing high-rates of violence committed against women and LGBTQ communities in South Africa should unsettle us all. Lawyers Against Abuse is a South African non-profit that I believe is doing incredible work providing victims of gender-based violence with financial, legal, and mental support.
To my American friends and others around the world, I know that now more than ever you have your own concerns that you may be donating to or fundraising for; however, if you may have considered buying me a birthday present or if you have taken the time to read this post, I urge you to consider making a donation, no matter how small. I'll remind you too that your dollar or pound makes a large impact in South Africa and is capable of effecting great change. If you can, please donate directly to this Global Giving fundraiser.
To my South African friends and family, we are all too aware of the shameful atrocities that continue to be committed against women in our communities. The culture of sexism and the violence and threat of violence women face on an ongoing basis in South Africa is unacceptable. I urge you to consider making a donation and helping to stand-up against the culture that is suppressing the very women that make our country great. If you can, please donate directly to this Global Giving fundraiser or through Lawyers Against Abuse's website (see link below).
A massive thank you to anyone who is taking the time to read this, donate, or share this message. I am sending warmth to each of you in these trying times. Let us all remember that in our darkest and weakest moments, we are made strongest when we support, build-up, encourage, shed light on, and protect all of those around us.
Best,
Kyllian
