Many Black women and their children have been negatively impacted by the war in Ukraine and yet neglected while seeking an equal right to safety and various resources.
Over the past three months, our organization through the Global Black Coalition has supported many mothers and their babies/children who are facing great adversity. Our organization is actively supporting vulnerable community members of our community who are fleeing the war in Ukraine while denied an equal right to resources and safety.
Many mothers and their children are being chased out of European countries and denied essential resources like food and diapers. Stories that we shared on our social media page (@globalblackcoalition) like that of Abigail and her two young daughters are one of too many.
Some black mothers don't have a shelter; some are denied resources and others are being told that if they do not leave a country, they will deported; yet their children are Ukrainian and were born in Ukraine; they speak the language and they only know Ukraine.
This war has exposed the differential treatment that Black people experience even in the midst of a crisis because of their skin color.
This fund that we are developing will directly go towards the needs of Black women and their children fleeing the war for the next year. The fund will be used to continue to provide:
- Diapers and other baby products
- Transportation fees
- Mental health specialists
And other pressing needs that they may have.
We chose to support Black women and their children through these funds because many of their needs are being ignored during this war.
