Hi, I’m Pete. I’m doing the Monkey Run Morocco and raising money for Moroccan earthquake relief. Make a donation, and I'll give out a rubber ducky in your honor!
On New Year’s Day, I’ll be setting out on The Monkey Run, where I’ll drive a hilariously small 50cc motorcycle (aka “monkey bike”) across Morocco. This rally will take me from the edge of the Sahara Desert, and through the Atlas Mountains, on a tiny bike that isn’t at all suitable for this kind of journey.
Over the course of this adventure, I hope to give something back to the amazing people of Morocco. I’ve chosen to raise money for The Morocco Earthquake Relief Fund, in response to the September 2023 earthquake. I’ve got a backpack full of rubber duckies with me. If you donate on my behalf, I’ll give out a rubber ducky in your honor to a kid I meet along the way. I’ll take a pic of where your duck ended up and share it with you!
Context: A powerful earthquake hit Morocco on Sept. 8, 2023, killing more than 2,800 people, injuring thousands more, and causing widespread damage. The 6.8M earthquake hit in a mountainous area near Ighil, about 50 miles from Marrakesh. It was the strongest earthquake recorded in the region in 120 years. The quake left extensive damage, toppling homes, destroying vital infrastructure, and leaving people in need of rescue and help in hard-to-reach areas. Months later, the region is rebuilding, and many refugees are still living in temporary housing. The Morocco Earthquake Relief Fund provides emergency relief and long-term support to these affected communities.
Thank you for your support!
