Summary
The Project will construct 50 hand washing stations equipped with soap and water, sensitize the community on COVID-19 through community clean up and provide food and pay rent for families who have lost jobs as result of the pandemic in Turkana West Sub-County.
Challenge
Kenya has since confirmed several cases of Novel Corona virus, with over 3,000,000 cases reported across the globe, Turkana West Sub-County as a population of 243,000 people in cluding the refugees and the Kakuma refugee camp is under lock down,the situation might be worse in Turkana West where access to clean water and sanitation facilities is a challenges. Most people in Turkana West are mainly business people, domestic workers and casual laborers. Most of them have lost jobs as result of the pandemic.
Solution
The project will construct hand washing stations in Turkana West Sub-County in addition to raising awareness on Covid-19. The hand washing stations will be equipped with clean water and soap to sensitize the residents on hand washing . The project will also provided food and pay rent for those people who have lost their jobs.
Long-Term Impact
The project will aim at setting up hand washing station in various schools in Turkana West Sub-County. It will also train teachers, students and the entire community on the importance of hand washing and general hygiene to stop the spread of diseases including covid-19. In addition, the project will also set up permanent hand washing stations in some public spaces in Turkana West.
