The grassroots non-profit Tiljala SHED has spent nearly four decades helping some of Calcutta's most vulnerable children and families stay in school, resist child marriage, and build safer lives. I saw this work up close, and one young woman I met, Sonam, is in college today because Tiljala SHED has supported her since she was twelve.
This progress is fragile: Tiljala SHED relies on donations, and its long-term funding expires in June 2026. If support runs out, students like Sonam could lose the chance to stay in school and build a safer future.
