Rescuing Leftover Cuisine Massachusetts launched C-19 Initiatives to alleviate immediate and increased food needs in the Greater Boston Area. This includes our Serving Our Students and Serving Our Service agency clients (SOS!) initiatives to provide home deliveries of individually packaged, nutritious and culturally diverse meals to low-income households in Boston, Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, Roslindale, Jamaica Plain, East Boston and Chelsea. To date, we have provided over 36,000 meals directly to 374 homes since April 8, 2020. The SOS! home delivery initiatives have required adding infrastructure, hiring additional staff and Paid Rescuers to organize and distribute these meals. We require funding in order to continue this free service. We are currently delivering to 80 homes on a weekly recurring basis, and have enough funding to continue delivering an average of 2 meals per person, per household, per delivery to 40-80 homes every week until September 1, 2021. Our goals are to maintain or ideally increase weekly capacity between now and 9.1.21; maintain or ideally increase frequency of deliveries as needed between now and 9.1.21; and extend this free service after 9.1.21. 💛 “Miles de gracias. Soy sincero contigo, soy una de las personas que te agradezco desde el fondo de mi corazón por la comida” (Thousands of thanks. I am sincere to you, I am one of the people who thank you from the bottom of my heart for the food) - East Boston family 💛 “RLC is a vital program to our school community. During the pandemic, many of our families experienced job loss. RLC was able to provide healthy and consistent meals weekly. RLC is an amazing community organization and we are thankful for your continued support.” - Tanisha Cooper, Family Engagement Coordinator, Neighborhood House Charter School 💛 “I feel so grateful to receive this food. It helps me a lot with my budget and it’s healthy and delicious. I don’t have any income right now and to have the peace to not worry about food means a lot.” - Roslindale family 💛 "My husband is not working much & we are not legally documented. I feel like RLC is a way of support for us." - East Boston family 💛 “This program has been critical in supporting the many Boston Public School children and families throughout the pandemic. As we know, food insecurity has been a problem in the City far before the pandemic hit, and it will remain so, far after new Covid-19 cases and vaccinations. I truly hope this program is able to continue on so that it can be an available resource throughout the years to come.” - Sarah Primeau, Director of Programs, Health Leads 💛 Each $50 donation provides 30 meals for 3 homes. Each $100 donation provides 60 meals for 6 homes. Each $250 donation provides 150 meals for 15 homes.
