Building a Better Life for Japanese Care-Home Children

A fundraiser by Phil Robertson

The 30,000+ children who live in Japanese care homes include both orphans and children who have been the victims of neglect or abuse. When they leave institutional care at 18 (as the system requires), they face a highly uncertain future. The Mirai no Mori NPO runs several excellent programs that help support these children. These include summer and winter camps at which the children can learn valuable skills that will give them a better chance in life, a Leaders-in-Training initiative which teaches the older children to proactively support the younger kids, and a support network that maintains close ties with care-home graduates after leaving institutional care, as they attempt to forge new lives as young, independent adults.
We (the Knights in White Lycra) will be cycling 500 km in four days, over mountainous terrain, from Utsunomiya to Ichinoseki, where we will meet some of the children who are benefitting from Mirai no Mori's inspirational projects.
Please support us and help us reach our goal!
