As the coronavirus pandemic spread across the globe, around 1.6 billion children could not go to school. Our own lockdown in Cardiff made our students realise how important education is and the value of access to school and all the wonderful experiences and friendships within it.
Due to covid restrictions this year, our school winter concert performance could not go ahead. The decision was made to instead produce a video performance that could be shared with our friends and families, celebrating the return to school after the closure and highlighting the key role schools play in childhood. Building on this realisation, we want to reach out and support the work of Educateurs sans Frontières to enable more children to gain access to a Montessori education.
The children have had the opportunity to experience cinematography. They were involved in drone filming, saw how green screens can be used and the time and effort needed for audio recordings to name a few things. The pre-concert excitement has filled the classes in this past week. They've learnt that the disappointment of not having an in person concert could be turned into an opportunity for a new experience. Above all else the children have learnt how you can use music, singing, art, dance and a story to make a difference.
This Christmas join Cardiff Montessori in raising money for Educateurs sans Frontières.
(Our target was initially planned at £1,000 but on hearing more about the East Pokot initiative our upper elementary students have asked to increase this to £2,000!)
