Building a Better Future for Japanese Orphanage Children

The 20,000+ children who live in Japanese care homes include orphans and children who have been victims of neglect or abuse. When they leave institutional care at 18 (as the law requires), they face a highly uncertain future. The Mirai no Mori NPO runs excellent programs that help support these children. These include summer and winter camps at which the children can learn valuable skills that will give them a better chance in life, a Leaders-in-Training initiative which teaches the older children to proactively support the younger kids, and a support network that maintains close ties with care-home graduates after leaving institutional care, as they attempt to forge new lives as young, independent adults.
