During the month of October, I will be spinning and running towards the group goal of traveling the distance between Washington D.C. and Baghdad: 6,202.3 miles.
More than 800,000 Iraqi children were orphaned as a result of the Iraq War while the ISIS occupation displaced more than 1.3 million. One in five Iraqi children work to support their families or themselves, and 80% of all Iraqi children experience violence at home or in school. ICF exists to intervene on their behalf.
$12 pays for a month of school and hygiene supplies for a child; $50 pays for monthly tuition and nutrition for a child; $200 supports a lawyer to protect/defend children from traffickers and criminals. Any amount adds up to provide this type of support. Street Lawyers, social workers, and Hope Buses deliver education, food, legal protection, medical care, and psychosocial services to orphans and vulnerable children.
As a volunteer designer for ICF, I am incredibly passionate about this organisation and the impact it makes on the lives of children who are vulnerable to abuse, neglect, and exploitation by criminals, human traffickers, and extremists.
