This September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and I'm running 100 miles to raise money for KidzCan Zimbabwe and their work supporting children with cancer and their families. KidzCan is the only organization in Zimbabwe doing this work.
Cancer has touched my life more than I wish it had through family, through friends, through loss. This is why this cause matters so much to me.
There's something especially hard about watching a young person lose a fight or battling for their lives from this disease. Childhood should be about growing, learning, playing, and dreaming not about whether a family can afford treatment.
Earlier this year, our Run for CJ fundraiser showed me what our community can do when we show up for something together. This month felt like the right time to show up again — one mile at a time.
Every mile I run is for a child fighting cancer in Zimbabwe, for the families beside them, and for the hope that more kids get to grow up and live the lives ahead of them.
