On December 2nd I ran a new journey (for me), running from Roches Point Light House, at the outer edge of Cork Harbour back to the Brighter Communities HQ in the heart of my home town of Cobh, in the heart of Cork Harbour. This journey took me on a very large loop around one side of Cork Harbour, one of the biggest natural harbours on the planet.
I passed through many of the towns villages, and points of interest that I would have seen so often in my childhood growing up in Cobh, and subsequently running around the Great Island on my training runs whilst visiting my childhood home. I made sure to take in as much water-side running as possible, often using "the road less taken".
This is the only charity event I will do this year. This particular charity is special to me as it was founded by my friend Maria, who I have known since we were children. The way she reacted to being mugged on her Holiday in Kenya, and seeing the poverty that so many people suffer there, by deciding to change her life completely by doing something about what she saw, and setting up and running a charitable organisation to improve the lives of the communities she encountered. I'm proud to know someone so dedicated to making the world a better place in such a direct and effective manner.
Any funds donated on the 2nd or 3rd of December will also raise bonus additional funding for "Giving Tuesday".
