On Sunday 27th April I will be running the London Marathon.

When you’re lucky enough to get a ballot place out of 840,000 applicants it’s the perfect opportunity to raise money for those who aren’t as lucky as me.

I will be running for KidzCan children’s cancer charity in Zimbabwe, a charity very close to my heart. Founded in 2003 by a dear friend who survived childhood cancer, KidzCan provides a lifeline to over 900 children and their families a year.

The charity offers a wide range of support to children undergoing cancer treatment, the majority from rural families without the funds to even pay the bus fare to seek help for their sick child. Their services cover treatment not available in the public health system by supporting two children’s cancer wards in Harare. KidzCan provides bus fares, food hampers, chemotherapy drugs, radiological and laboratory diagnostic services, blood and blood products to all children free of charge.

Last year I had the privilege of visiting them in Harare and seeing their work first hand at their recently opened Rainbow Children’s Village. The village offers a tranquil home from home for children and their carers, who are well enough to receive treatment as an outpatient. Here they can be monitored, recuperate and receive regular healthy meals. Transport is provided to ensure they attend appointments and complete their treatment. It was wonderful to see a child come back from hospital and be able to play in the garden, and for mothers to socialise and support each other in a relaxed environment.

Your money could go towards:
- Fuel and upkeep of the vehicles taking children to hospital, or travelling to the rural areas to raise awareness and educate early detection
- Providing healthy, nutritious meals and snacks to children and carers at the Rainbow Village, and food hampers to families going home
- Bricks and mortar to build a much needed third unit at the village to house more children
- Medical care and diagnostics

Please give what you can. It will mean a lot to me.

Thank you.
