Cole's doing it again! Cole's walking for Asian elephants, supporting Trunks & Leaves for a second year, on their mission to conserve these magnificent animals and their habitats through science, education, policy, and advocacy. With only about 45,000 Asian elephants in the wild (about a tenth of the number of African elephants) their biggest threat is habitat loss and fragmentation due to human development.
Cole believes in a world where elephants and people can coexist peacefully on shared landscapes. His fundraising efforts ensure that both people and wildlife benefit. The project "Facilitating Human-Elephant Coexistence in Asia" works with communities living near forest edges, helping them to grow crops that are unpalatable to elephants. This initiative aims to minimise economic hardship for farmers while allowing elephants to forage naturally. These lands are important foraging areas for animals, so it's paramount that people and wildlife live together.
Elephants, Cole's favorite animals, are intelligent, long-lived with complex social lives. They are also keystone species that modify and 'engineer' their landscapes in ways that affect countless animal and plant communities.
Thank you for helping Cole in his mission to conserve Asian elephants!
