In America 1 in 7 people are food insecure, and do not know when their next meal is. In 2020 that meant over 38.3 million Americans lived in food insecure households! In the meantime, 40% of the food produced in the United States is thrown away each year. FORTY percent. In 2020 that meant over 80 billion lbs. of food was wasted.
The solution? Food Rescue!
Rescuing Leftover Cuisine has been rescuing excess food from restaurants, grocery stores, office buildings, hotels and schools for the past 9 years, resulting in 6.5 millions lbs. of food feeding people instead of landfills. Unlike other food rescue organizations, RLC has no minimum lbs. requirement for pickups, living by the belief that a little can go a long way and that one meal could change a life.
Through innovative solutions, RLC connects food donor partners directly to Human Service Agencies (food banks, homeless shelters, etc.) through their dedicated volunteer Rescuers. Our Rescuers collect excess food and transport it directly to the recipient by foot, public transport or personal vehicles. Avoiding the use of storage space or truck for transportation completely, RLC doesn't just spend every single cent on their mission, they also offer a more environmental-friendly solution!
As co-chair of RLC's Associate Board I work together with the staff and our partners to bring this mission to life everyday. I am grateful for your support!
