Most of Women in Kemondo Village who married when they are still a children if occurs abandonment or death of a man they have no power to run the family because many families in Kemondo village depend on local agricultural which is often a lack of rain who get few crops that its not meets the family needs like foods, medical care and schools needs for their children and this will be continuation of chronic poverty. Due the challenges I mentioned above, the Kagera Community Development Mission (KCDM) Organization through the community meeting conducted with the local governmental authority, the women raised to implement pig farming project to increase the family income. The project proposed:-
1. To provide economic empowerment to 100 women headed of households
2. Training the beneficiaries on how to take care the pig on their respective homes and entrepreneurship skills.
3. To purchase and distribute 200 piglets to 100 Women headed household
4. Buying feeds and Medication drugs for the pigs
5. Veterinary visiting to homes of beneficiaries to offer supervision services.
Finding from KCDM field visting site to Kemondo village show that early Child marriage is one of the source of child mortality, poverty and sexual abuse. After identifying the above challenges the KCDM Organization through the Ward Development Committee (WDC) this issues was raised and discussed at the Public Meetings that taken place quarterly , through this meeting the communities were identified the common poor household and suggested the pig farming could increase household income to reduce poverty. This Project is participatory and has been proposed by the beneficiaries, for that this is community project, the women are committed to implement the project to reduce the in come poverty, also this project will help the communities to improve their health because they will have better nutrition by eating meat. The beneficiaries and families will gate basic needs of their children as well as Medical care through pig seller
By providing pig farming the single mother and their starving children will be able to benefit financial gains and profits that will be enables their households have proper food, clothing, shelter and also be able to be buying medication when ill.
For that the project will achive the following outcomes:-
1. Poverty reduction: Household income for the rural youth and women improved because instead of relying on agricultural income alone they will benefit from pig farming thus increasing income, and they will be able to eat three meals instead of the one meal they are currently eating. In which case the project also will have contributed to poverty reduction.
2. Contribution self employment opportunity for women and youth who will be employed as service providers to pig farming.
3. Improved knowledge and skills on pig keeping and entrepreneurship skills among women and youth because will be trainined on pig keeping and Managemenent and entrepreneurship skills.
The Project hopes to achieve the goal of increasing househould income through the Pig Projecte and to improve the health of family members as well as enabling children to access education. The outcomes of the Project will be family benefit to increase income, food and health improvement.
The project will be sustainable because it's a community projects and will be generating income. The Project beneficiaries will be supported with skills and knowledge on pig keeping, feeding processing in which it will add value on their economics lives through making and selling animal feeds. Also the Pig Project will be source of compost manure it's generally agreed that compost manure is the best vegetable fertilizer as it is free from any unhealthy chemical composition like store bought, it's free that once this Project starts the beneficiaries will not just being benefiting from the meat and cash only, but they will be getting pig dung (manure) as perfect fertilizer for their vegetable garden.
For considering for importance of the quality of Pig manure, beneficiaries will be trained to cultivate vegetable gardens that will sell and eat, this will add more value and to increase the Project sustainabability.
Second this project will be sustainable because, the project proposed to reach 100 households in Kemendo ward, each household will be provided with 2 piglets and instructed to take care of it till it's deliverence. After deliverance, the first deliverance of the pig, the house hold will require to distribution 2 piglets to other women. KCDM in collaboration with the Local Government Authority will manage to assure that the beneficiaries meets the terms of project condition, each households (beneficiary) will be responsible for distributing 2 piglets to other women interested after the pig breed feeding. To promote the sustainability of the project there will be a slogan in swahili that says "Chukua Mbili lipa mbili" .means take two pay two, this slogan will build the resilience of the beneficiaries to manage the sustainability of this Project. We are absolutely sure that this pig project will have many benefits and sustainable.
