Railway Community of Ijora Badia in Apapa LGA is a community virtually without any social government services.
Poor drainage and sanitation facilities leave a permanent foul odour at the bustling shanty plank house structures and most residents must wade through several refuse dumps to reach their destinations; an inadequate public power supply means that noise and fumes from generators permanently fill the air, along with blaring music from the numerous brothels and football viewing centres.
None of this deters the slum's numerous commercial activities, the most important of which is the Female Sex Work.
With virtually no modern infrastructure except for the dilapidated and another rehabilitated rail lines that passes through the area, Ijora Badia is home to hundreds of Commercial Female Sex Workers who ply their trade day and night, beckoning potential customers from doorways.
Not many of the Sex workers were interested in hearing about the dangers of contracting HIV. They were quick, however, to say they take necessary precautions, and that they need the money they get to survive,
Many of these Sex workers are teenagers who are pregnant while others are young mothers with their young children leaving with them. These children stay in the same room where the Mothers attends to their customers or chased to stay outside pending when the mother is done. This situation is enough to affect the lives of these Children’s psychology and with long term negative I,pact on the Children growth that without organized ECDE
The Children are quick to emulate and do most time what their parent did and especially on a girl child will easily follow up to do whatever her mother is doing. In the community currently most of the Adolescents were once children in this same community where their mothers worked/works/
Now this ECED Centre will provide the opportunity to break the cycle of generation Sex work inheritance
Ijora-Badia Primary School located about 10min working distance and that happens to be the only school around there. There is now a need to establish a preparatory school to bring up these growing number of children of Female Sex workers then link them up with the public school when they are of age.
