The Refugee Youth Alliance (RYA) is a new voluntary-based initiative with a mission to create opportunities for refugee youth to belong and lead positive change for themselves and their communities. RYA does this by mobilizing resources to support refugee youth led initiatives; providing one on one mentorship to youth leaders; and providing a global platform for knowledge sharing among young leaders living in displacement.
RYA aims to raise $2,000.00 for PSU's 2021 Youth Leaders Program (YLP).
The PSU team has created the YLP to train youth on soft skills and empower them to believe in their abilities. Through peer to peer trainings refugee youth will learn skills such as teamwork, problem solving, communication, and public speaking. At the end of the training program the participants will implement a capstone project to put into practice the skills they have learnt. They can choose their mini-project based on issues they've identified in their community.
In addition to raising funds for PSU's 2021 YLP - RYA will also provide mentorship through a dedicated RYA mentor to PSU in 2021. RYA mentors are highly skilled individuals who are committed to uplifting refugee leaders. The mentor will provide PSU with project management tools, be available for regular check-ins and brainstorm sessions, and will be available as needed based on the needs of PSU, so they can successfully deliver their YLP program in 2021.
