We are currently volunteering with Light House Relief in Ritsona camp, Greece, with child refugees aged 3-10, where we provide a fun and safe space for four days a week (with arts & crafts, sports, singing and dancing). These children and their families have fled their countries; many have endured a dangerous crossing via boat from Turkey to Lesbos and Samos, and have been subjected to inhumane living conditions in the camps on the islands.
In Ritsona camp, the conditions are better, and the children finally have the chance for a little stability. Yet, the majority of these children have no access to education, making Light House Relief an important source of structure in their daily lives.
However, the camp is rapidly expanding, from 900 people in December 2019 to 3100 by the end of this month. Because of this, there is a greater need for pyscho-social support and extra resources for the activities (as there will be over 800 children in Ritsona by the end of February). We are hoping to raise some money to help Light House Relief cover these extra costs and add safety features to the space. If you could spare any pounds, pennies, euros, dollars (or any other currency of your choice), we can assure you that your money will be going towards an incredibly worthy cause, helping us to make so many of these sweet children smile every day and make the space as safe as possible for them. If you can’t donate but you want to find out more or how you can volunteer then feel free to message one of us.
