FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. Can I spend funds after September 30th, 2019?
A. No, all funds must be spent by September 30th, 2019 in order to fulfill the requirements of the FCLP program and your Grant Agreement even if your project’s last expense was made on September 30th. If you have concerns regarding this please reach out to grants+facebook@globalgiving.org.
Q. In terms of the Financial Report, what does GlobalGiving mean by Project Spending vs Approved Budget, income-generation, and donations, spending-adjustments, and reallocation of funding? And how do I report them?
- Project Spending vs Approved Budget: Your Financial Report needs to reflect what you actually spent on your Project vs your approved budget FCLP project proposal budget, and this needs to be broken down by expense type (line item).
- Income-generation: Please use your Financial Report to share with GlobalGiving your project’s income generation if applicable. For example, a workshop in which a fee was charged, that fee is considered income-generation.
- Donations: Include any monetary or in-kind (non-cash) gifts. For example, perhaps a business donated accounting services (in-kind) to your project or your project received a cash donation to be used to complete your FCLP project (monetary).
- Spending Adjustments: Any adjustments that were not originally approved. For example, an increase in an expense type (line item) in order to account for an item costing more than anticipated is considered a spending adjustment.
- Reallocation of Funding: Moving funds from one expense type (line item) to another or additional expense type (line item). For example, transferring excess funding from your workshop budget to your program materials budget.
Please see the Financial Report template for more clarification and examples.
Q. Do I have to use the Financial Report template that GlobalGiving provided?
A. No, it is not a requirement. You may continue to provide any accounting format used to manage your project. However, GlobalGiving found that the Financial Statement was where most participants struggled the most with Progress Reporting. Using the Financial Report template is meant to ease any confusion and streamline the financial reporting process for you.

Q. What happens if I don’t submit my report by September 30th?
A. You will receive notices reminding you to report. In the event that you do not report, you are not in compliance with your Grant Agreement and will not be eligible for future grants from GlobalGiving.
Q. Do I need to depreciate grant-funded assets?
A. Grantees that managed projects funds as an individual or business entity may need to depreciate grant-funded assets as part of the closeout process. After reviewing financial reports and receipts, GlobalGiving will provide guidance on how to dissolve any residual value of assets in a manner that is consistent with the terms of your Agreement on a per-grant basis. Any equipment purchase or capital expenditure less than $1,000 USD will depreciate by the end of your Grant Period and hold zero value to you or your business.
Q. When will GlobalGiving review my Final Report?
- GlobalGiving will be reviewing reports on a rolling basis, and we will reach out to you should have additional questions or need clarification regarding details within the report.
- GlobalGiving will closeout all Grant Agreements by December 31, 2019.
- During this time, your GlobalGiving report can be accessed by Facebook’s team and your Community Leadership Program SPM. It is GlobalGiving’s responsibility to review the report against your proposed project plan and Grant Agreement. How do I ensure that my Final Report is approved?
- Provide thorough details regarding the progress you made, and remember that if your project didn’t go exactly as planned, GlobalGiving considers that learning, not a failure. Use the narrative section to honestly share with us what went well and what didn’t. One of GlobalGiving’s core values is Listen. Act. Learn, Repeat. which embraces experimentation and the challenges that come with trying.
