Frequently Asked Questions

Can I donate overseas?

Yes! GlobalGiving makes it easy and safe to support nonprofits all over the world. Since 2002, the GlobalGiving community has raised nearly $1 billion for local, charitable causes in 175+ countries. Every nonprofit on GlobalGiving.org has been rigorously vetted and has committed to providing donors regular updates about how donations are put to work.

Are my donations through GlobalGiving tax deductible?

Yes, your donations through GlobalGiving may be tax deductible. In the US, GlobalGiving is a registered 501(c)(3) organization, and our EIN for tax purposes is 30‑0108263. GlobalGiving is also a registered charity in England and Wales, Charity Number 1122823. If you are a UK taxpayer, your donation will allow us to claim Gift Aid on your donation equating to an additional £0.25 on for every £1 donated.

If you are based in Europe, you are also able to make an online donation to GlobalGiving UK through the Transnational Giving Europe platform. This mechanism allows donors to claim tax efficient benefits in-country when making the cross border donation. If you are a donor based in France or Germany and wish to make an off-line donation to GlobalGiving UK, you can also make your donation through Transnational Giving Europe and claim in-country tax benefits.

How do I give?

We are so happy to hear that you’re interested in donating! GlobalGiving strives to make this process simple for our donors. Donations may be made by check, online at GlobalGiving.org, wire transfer, and more. Learn how to give today.

How do I receive an update on how my donation was used?

If you are interested in receiving updates about the project, navigate to the webpage of the project you are supporting. Then, click on the “Reports” tab under the photo, and enter your email address at the bottom of that page.

How can I make the most impact with my gift?

One way you can make an immediate impact is through unrestricted, flexible donations. Such donations allow nonprofits to use funds where they are most needed and keep community leaders in the driver’s seat of change. This form of funding also equips charitable organizations to adapt to rapid change, seize opportunities, and innovate so they remain agile, relevant, and sustainable. Learn more about accelerating impact with an unrestricted, flexible donation.

May I designate my donation to support a specific project or fund?

Yes, of course. You have three designation options:
1. Include the name of the organization and/or project ID number of your preferred GlobalGiving partner in the memo field of your check.
2. Direct your donation to GlobalGiving to support its nonprofit programs and operations
3. Indicate your donation is intended to be put to be used “where it’s needed most”
Please note that if no designation is provided with your check, the donation will be directed to a general GlobalGiving fund.
