Families were fed for the holidays!

Dear friends, thank you for your support of this project over the past several months.  Although Burbank Temporary Aid Center (BTAC) provides food for low income families and individuals all year long, it is especially important during the holidays.

BTAC distributed over 500 turkeys, along with stuffing, potatoes, etc, for a complete Thanksgiving meal.  This allowed the families to continue thier own traditions within thier own homes, rather than going to a 'soup kitchen'  - or going without.  And then, we did the same in December for the Christmas holiday.

Many members of our community dropped off some of the canned and packaged goods we needed.  With your donations, BTAC was able to fill the gaps in what was donated. Turkeys, fresh potatoes, etc.  were purchased to help complete the meals.

Now, BTAC is receiving calls and notes from those who were assisted, thanking us for helping them through the holidays.  But thier thanks should be passed along to you.  Thanks to you and our donors, together, we make things happen!

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Holidays are just around the corner!

Although Halloween is still several weeks away, at Burbank Temporary Aid Center (BTAC), we are already planning for the holidays.  This is the time of year BTAC begins organizing holiday foods for low-income families.

This time of year is tough for families.  There are so many expectations around the holidays, and when you are struggling to make ends meet, those expectations become frustrations.  So, BTAC puts together all the groceries for a traditional Thanksgiving Holiday meal for each family to take home and create or continue thier family traditions.

Then, we do it all over again in December!

Between the two holidays, BTAC will go through approximately 1,000 turkeys, hams and roast beef.  Although many members of our community will donate them, BTAC usually needs to purchase about 250 more, to ensure we can meet the need.

That's where your help makes such a difference. Turkeys, etc. are expensive items.  But with your support, we are able to make sure there are plenty to go around.

Thank you for your past support.  I hope you will continue that support this upcoming holiday season.  And perhaps encourage friends or family to join you in creating wonderful holidays for hundreds of families.

One meal a day

Most of us have dieted at some time in our lives.  Remember how deprived we felt, just cutting back or changing some of our eating habits?  Now, imagine if you had no choice.  You could count on only one meal a day, And you had to hope it would be enough to fill you up and keep you going until the next day.

That's what it is like for the homeless who come to Burbank Temporary Aid Center for thier daily sack lunches.  We try to have a hearty sandwich, fruit, beverage, something sweet, as well as salty.  But with your funds, we can add in some extras to help stave off the hunger pangs.

Sometimes it is as simple as adding a few granola bars or some fresh fruit.  But we would really like to add in an extra sandwich, too.  So, your donation helps make that possible.

Every day, we hear the words of thanks as lunches are distributed.  But that thanks is also for you.  For your caring touches lives every day.

Thanks for your support.
