Mission

Mission To win children away from a life of war and delinquency, with love, through education and the holistic development of their academic, personal, and social abilities, empowering them to construct and achieve their own life projects. Vision That the children of Ciudad Bolivar will be capable of breaking their cycle of poverty and become the kind of persons that they desire to be. Values - Love and respect for oneself and for others - Always put oneself in the place of the other - Pursue excellence - Seek justice About Pintando Caminos Who We Are Pintando Caminos Asociacion para Recrear el Futuro (Pintando Caminos Association to Recreate the Future) is a registered non-profit that, for more than 12 years, has provided spaces and opportunities to improve the lives of boys and girls who live in the oppressed and impoverished neighborhood of Potosi, in Ciudad Bolivar (Bogota, Colombia). We desire to break the cycle of poverty in Colombia ad to provide the children and young adults with all the necessary tools for them to succeed in life in a dignified way, and to help the youth become complete and integrated persons, with values that make it possible for us to build a better country in the future.

Programs

What We Do Love is the engine that drives our work. Approximately 250 children and young adults, ages 0-16, benefit from the different programs provided by Pintando Caminos. Firstly, everyday (M-F) we provide a warm lunch to children of the neighborhood. We also provide physical spaces and learning opportunities to help the youth of Potosi develop as whole persons and to assist them in accessing work, academic, and professional opportunities. Through love, we give the youth the recognition, respect, and affection that they deserve, and spaces for them to improve their academic, social, artistic, and personal abilities. Current Projects The four aspects of life that we consider important are 1) work/academics, 2) social life, 3) family life, and 4) personal life. (We call this project Pintando Excelencia - Painting Excellence). Along these four axes, we have developed the following projects: Escribo, Pinto y Aprendo (I write, I paint, I learn) Improving students' level of academic performance by helping them with their school work, supporting those with learning problems, and teaching the value of excellence and quality work. Que te pinte el futbol (Let soccer paint you) A soccer school with which we seek to draw the children and young people away from delinquency and drugs, and to teach them all the values that that come with practicing sports. Pintarte (Paint and Art) We provide the opportunity for the children of the neighborhood to participate in hands-on artistic activities (for the moment, on the weekends). In the future we hope to have a space for the children to practice music and dance. I Speak English A second language project in which the children practice/learn English, so that when they head into the working world they will have an advantage. Aprendiendo a servir (Learning to serve) In this project, the children serve in different organizations such as nursing homes, work with people living in the street, and lunch services for indigenous groups. In this way they learn to understand the importance of solidarity and service as an axis that crosses their lives. Construyendo Familia (Building Family) A project to give parents good recreation activities and training in family values that will help them in the difficult task of parenting. Proyecto Mariposa (Butterfly Project) - in construction, awaiting implementation A fundamental project in which we help the youth begin to construct a clear life project, achieve a knowledge of their abilities, and work to achieve their goals.
