Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada - Homework Update!

We can hardly believe that the holiday season is just around the corner! By this time, our young people have been in school for a few months now - working hard to complete projects, striving for good grades on their report cards and looking forward to a bit of rest and relaxation with their families over the holiday break.

Thankfully, because of caring people like you, our children and youth continue to have the support they need to help keep their grades on track and achieve success in school. As you may know, most of our Clubs across Canada offer homework help during the after-school hours, especially for children and youth who need it most. Your support allows our clubs to purchase much needed supplies such as rulers, calculators, workbooks, computer software, and other resources that our young members need in order to succeed - and often don't have access to.

By this time of year, teachers have a good understanding of which children and youth could really benefit from some extra help and support. That's where Boys and Girls Clubs come in! And for those who may be still struggling to grasp some concepts, having access to the 1 on 1 homework support with trained staff and volunteer tutors at our Clubs becomes VITAL to ensure they do not fall behind. You are an important part of this!

We are so grateful for your continued support of our vital Homework Help programs. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of young Canadians across the country. On behalf of all of the children and youth who have benefitted from your generousity and support, we wish you a safe, happy and healthy holiday season.

Stay tuned! We look forward to providing you with more updates about our important work in the weeks ahead!

Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada Update!

Game Tech
Game Tech

As summer comes to an end, the leaves are beginning to change and fall season is just around the corner. We’ve had a terrific summer at Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada – here are a few of the highlights:

Game Tech
Game Tech continues to be a great success in all of our participating Clubs and continues to be one of the most popular programs offered.  Through Game Tech, children and youth challenge each other to be creative, designing and playing each other’s video game masterpieces! Over the late spring, Club staff attended a training webinar to ensure they were properly equipped to run the program in their Clubs. There was also a peer-to-peer training session amongst Club members. Participating Clubs ran the program for 8 weeks and are now gearing up to run another 8 week session in the fall.

Clubs express how much this program is an eye opener for the children and youth involved, as many did not realized how much work goes into making an animated computer character perform a specific action. Almost all participants have never been exposed to computer programming and the process of composing a video game!

National Youth Forum
Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada’s bi-annual National Youth Forum has once again left an unforgettable mark on the lives of 180 young leaders who gathered in Kamloops, British Columbia for this ‘life-changing’ event. Led by the National Youth Council and designed ‘for youth by youth’, Oasis 2013 enabled young Canadians to come together to discuss important issues, develop new skills, expand their knowledge about the arts, culture and environment and boost their self-esteem.

THANK YOU
Your continued support enables our young people to gain valuable skills and have access to vital opportunities just like the ones listed above - continuing to help open doors to new experiences, paving the way for a successful future. Once again, thank you for your incredible support of our young people. We look forward to updating you on the continued progress of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada in the weeks ahead!

Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada Homework Help Update!

Homework Help

As summercomes to an end, the leaves are beginning to change and fall season is just around the corner. This also marks another important milestone for our young people – heading back to school for another year of learning and growing! More teachers, more friends, more projects, and yes – more HOMEWORK! Thankfully, because of caring people like you, our children and youth will have the support they need to help keep their grades on track and achieve success in school.

But that’s not all – your support of homework help programs also means our kids can receive valuable academic support that will ensure a positive and quality experience for learning and growth. As we move into September and the homework starts to inevitably pile up, many of our children and youth will have access to 1 on 1 support with trained staff and volunteer tutors. At our Clubs, they will also benefit from peer support and group work – providing them with the techniques they need to help them improve their study habits, reduce stress, encourage different learning styles and most importantly - have fun!

There is a growing consensus that today’s educational demands require us to think differently about what, when, where and how young people learn. This new mindset recognizes the importance of supplementing the education they receive in school with a variety of additional enriching and high-quality learning experiences – those which help to strengthen their basic skills, connect learning and assist participants in making changes in their own lives and the increasingly connected world around them.

Your support makes this possible.

We are so grateful for your continued support of our vital Homework Help programs.  Thank you for making a difference in the lives of young Canadians across the country. We look forward to providing you with more updates about our important work in the weeks ahead!
