We are delighted to share with our GlobalGiving supporters that Raising A Reader has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as an evidence-based, innovative approach to literacy in the form or our first federal grant! Funded under the Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) Program, Raising A Reader was awarded $4 million over a two-year period to serve 20,000 children and their families in Baltimore, Boston and Phoenix.
That does not mean we are done! We have children to serve in many other cities across the United States and we need your help. A donation of just $35 will ensure a child’s continued participation with RAR for a full year. A gift of $100 will allow a new child and his/her family to take advantage of Raising A Reader’s book bag rotation and family engagement program.
So far this year we’ve raised $2,885 towards our goal of $36,000. And now, through the end of the year, all donations will be matched by a generous donor at 100%. Just think - your $35 donation would turn into $70, funding two children for an entire year and launching them on a positive trajectory toward academic success.
Please consider a contribution toward our children’s future by supporting Raising A Reader.

With only a few months left in 2012, we wanted to take a moment to update you on Raising A Reader's progress with our Global Giving project.
Thanks to a matching gift from a generous donor, we have raised $5,130, allowing us to provide books, materials, parent training, and library connections for over 100 new Raising A Reader children. Though we’ve only reached 14% of our total goal, with your continued support, we can reach 1,600 at-risk children by the end of 2012. And, again, each contribution is matched at 100%.
None of this would have been possible without your generous support. From all of us here at Raising A Reader, our sincerest thanks for everything you are doing to make a difference in the life of a child.
All the best,
The Raising A Reader Team

Smart Start of Brunswick County’s Raising A Reader and Parents As Teachers programs would like to thank you for investing in Books for At-Risk Children in North Carolina. Your donation has provided books for children from birth to two. We have been helping parents with young children understand the value of reading to children beginning at birth and "book cuddling".
Evidence shows that the earlier children are introduced to books, the more likely they are to be lifelong readers. Presently in Brunswick County, North Carolina, Raising A Reader serves children ages 3 and 4. We can now extend this wonderful opportunity to the youngest members of our community who have limited exposure to literacy experiences. Our sincere thanks.
