Join SOLA in our $100K Matching Challenge

Dear SOLA friends --

Our students are approaching two full months since the resumption of classes at our campus in Rwanda. They are thriving in this time of transition and hope, and as they do, we are presented with an extraordinary opportunity:

A generous donor is matching every dollar we raise through October 28, up to $100,000.

This is SOLA's $100K challenge. Ambitious, and attainable.

We hope you'll join us in these remarkable days, as SOLA's message reaches a wider audience than ever. Our president, Shabana Basij-Rasikh, was named a contributing columnist to the Global Opinion page of The Washington Post in September; since then, she has penned four columns discussing the changes that have come to Afghanistan -- and affirming our commitment to the world our students will create.

A world you will be with us to see.

Certainty in Uncertain Days

Dear SOLA friends,

We've come to the successful completion of the 1st semester of the school year and the start of the Eid holidays. Our students are safe. Our community is safe. Our commitment to them is unwavering.

In a conversation for The New Yorker Radio Hour and in an essay published by Just Security, our president Shabana Basij-Rasikh has spoken powerfully this month about the days that lie ahead. "When I say that education," she writes, "particularly girls' education, is the lever that will raise Afghanistan above extremism and into a peaceful and prosperous future, I'm not speaking of a belief I hold alone." She's right. We know it's your belief too, and that's something that brings so much hope as we set our course across an unsettled summer.

You are a part of SOLA, and we're so happy that you're with us.

Toward a Brave Future

Dear SOLA friends,

With an unblinking eye on security and our community's health, we move confidently into an uncertain summer and toward a brave future.

We are inspired by the words of one of our students: "I will use my education to teach other girls how to be brave, and that they are very important in society. Today, I am here, I am brave, tomorrow another girl will be here and she will be brave like me."

She's right. As you read these words, our students are preparing for their midterms and the end of the first semester of the school year -- and as they do, we are laying the groundwork for the 2022 admissions season. 2022 will be a monumental year in our history: it will be the year when our first class of 12th graders graduates SOLA.

We are so honored to have you with us, today and tomorrow, as our girls create the future.

Sola,

Kevin
