Work on the Bathrooms Has Begun!

Hard At Work on Our Bathrooms
Hard At Work on Our Bathrooms

Because of your amazing generosity so far, we've been able to begin work on two of our four student bathrooms.  The work, being done by local masons and the parents of our own students, will provide our students with new, fresh, and clean bathrooms to support their health and hygiene.  The bathrooms will have new tile floors, bright, colorful paint, and new sinks and toilets. The most excited students might be our prepas/kindergartners....they'll finally be able to reach the sinks on their own to wash their hands and brush their teeth!

We have also been able to put a fresh coat of paint on all of the walls in the School of Hope. It's amazing what a little paint make over can do for the morale of our students and teachers - the rooms are bright and cheery, and so are our students!

There is still time for you to provide further support for this work. We're still working to raise the funs to re-model our other two bathrooms, and we're certain we can raise that money before the end of the year because we're participating in GlobalGiving's year-end campaign. From now until December 31, any funds donated to this project has the potential of earning bonus funds awared by GlobalGiving and getting us even closer to our goal.  So, please consider donating again, and just as importantly, please share this project with your friends, family, and colleagues and encourage them to support this important work.  How wonderful will it be for our students to return to classes in January with brand new bathrooms?!

Graduation is Nearly Here!

Our 3rd básico (9th grade) students are about to graduate! They'll be heading off to area high schools and vocational schools next year - and we couldn't be more proud of them.  The dedication that these students and their families show to their educational work and goals is humbling and inspiring, and something we're really proud of supporting.

Did you know you can help us continue to support these students via scholarships? We are committed to ensuring that our graduates are able to continue their education in high school and in university if they desire, and so we do everything we can to cover the associated costs. By donating to our project here on Global Giving helps us meet this goal.

Our other students will be wrapping up the school year at the end of October and preparing to come back to classes in January. Some of them, though, will have the good luck (I'm sure they'd agree!) to spend a few weeks with us for summer school. These students will have a lot of fun during summer school while they're also brushing up on some skills they might need to practice before the school year starts again in January. During summer school, we continue to provide the students with the same support they get all year long: social and emotional support, basic medical care, nutritious lunches, and a high-quality education.

Thank you again for all of the generous and vital support you provide The School of Hope in Jocotenango, Guatemala.  We could not do what we do without you. I hope you'll continue to be a vital member of our team and consider making another donation to our Global Giving project!

We are 20% of the Way to Our Goal!

The generosity of our supporters is amazing and humbling! In just two months, we have raised 20% of our goal - that's over $5,000!  This means we have just about enough money to repair and upgrade one of our four student bathrooms.  This also means we still need to raise the funds to repair and upgrade the other three bathrooms - and we can do it with your help!

While we can't send you pictures about the progress we've made yet (because we don't quite have enough money to start the repairs yet), we're excited about how soon we will have photographic evidence of the work being conducted. In addition to our fundraiser on GlobalGiving, we have held fundraising events for our bathrooms in Chicago and Salt Lake City, with future events in Denver and Western New York.  Soon, the real work will begin as we pull out toilets and sinks and start installing new pipes and fixtures!

Each bathroom will get new fixtures, new toilets, new sinks, and new stalls.  We'll also re-paint and tile each bathroom, making it easier to keep the rooms clean and healthy for our students. Just imagine four shiny, new, clean bathrooms for our 400+ students at the school - and bathrooms that we'll be better able to maintain and clean!

I hope you'll consider donating to our project again. I don't want to take advantage of your generosity...but I've also seen these bathrooms and I know how desperately we need to repair them. If you can send a few more dollars our way, please do so.  And if you can't, the next best thing would be to have you share the link to our bathroom fundraiser with all your friends, family, and co-workers....and everywhere on social media that you can think of.  The best of both worlds is my dream come true - make another donation and ask your friends and family to contribute!

Our goal is to have the necessary $25,000 raised by October 31, 2019. I can't wait to be able to send you an update that says we've met that goal, and to share photos of our new, shiny, clean bathrooms with you!

Thanks so much for all you have already done, and for all that I know you'll do for our students in the future. You are making the world a better place in a very real way!
