Elevated Learning

Preparation
Preparation

SInce Elsa Primary School opened in 2010, classes have been conducted with students sitting on mats on the floor. Recently, donations from our kind supporters have facilitated the purchase of eight benches and desks. This will provide seating for forty students, five to each desk.

First, the metal frames were treated with anti corrosive paint by the school principal. Then, he coated the wooden benches & desks with varnish before assembly.

Photos of the students in their new seating can't be displayed yet as summer vacation does not end till 21st June. However, there is no doubt the students will be thrilled by ther new 'elevated learning environment'.

Excursion to Patna Zoo

At Patna Zoo
At Patna Zoo

Excursions are a useful enhancement to the education experience. Although there are many important historical sites in the Bodhgaya area, Elsa Primary School students were most keen to visit Patna Zoo & Planetarium.

Patna is the capital city of Bihar, 110 km from Bodhgaya. Due to heavy traffic and poor roads, the journey took 4 hours. Most of the Elsa students had never been further than 15 km from their villages and were unaccustomed to vehicular travel. Thus, there were many bouts of motion sickness along the way. Despite this, all had a great day! The big cats on display at the zoo were especially popular.

Meet One Of Our Students

Sangeeta
Sangeeta

Sangeeta is eleven years old and has been attending Elsa Primary School since March, 2015. She lives in Jamna Biya, a small village one kilometre from the school. Her father is a farmer and her mother is a housewife. There are eight children in the family, six girls and two boys.

Sangeeta is diligent in her studies, with English being her favourite subject. When asked what she likes about Elsa Primary School, she replied 'good education and food'. Her suggestions for improving the school are uniforms and computers.

Away from school, Sangeeta enjoys singing and playing with friends. The most important people in her life are her parents, and the person she admires most is Mahatma Gandhi, father of the Indian nation.

Sangeeta aspires to be a school teacher. It may be an ideal vocation for her as she is happy to share the responsibility of preparing both the classroom and meals for the other students. Hopefully, she can achieve her goal!
