Skill development in upper Gorkha

Shiitake mushroom farming training
Shiitake mushroom farming training

Hi everyone!!!,

We are very happy to keep you updated to our works being held for the betterment of the society. We are also happy to inform you that our progressive works are being held successfully.

This time along with the sewing training programs and other courses, we had held a 1 week skill development program regarding Shiitake mushroom farming. Since, the climatic conditions of upper gorkha is relatively cooler and to farm mushroom is also comparatively easy, we decided to put forward this program.

At first, we thought the program would not draw much participants. But, we were surprised with the numbers of participants that were willing to take part. The program was held for four days. During this training program, people got to know about the nutritional value and the market demand for the Shiitake mushrooms. This was probably the first time regarding the farming of mushrooms in commercial way in that region.

Whichever workshop training or awareness campaign we hold, we use the same method, that is teach-listen-interact, where we first teach, let them listen then let them raise their doubts or queries. We were surprised by the way people interacted because we thought they would feel shy and would hesitate to ask. They would stand-up and ask questions politely by joining hands. Our program was 2-day theoritical or guidance class then 2 days practical class, which was held under the guidance of a experienced supervisor. At the end of the course, the local community sent their best regards to people involved in making this project a success.

Our sewing classes and other classes are also being conducted smoothly. One of our student, has already completed her sewing training course and has already started her own small tailoring business in her own village of Laprak. The sewing machine and other necessities to start her business were provided by Journey Home Foundation. She has expressed her best regards to the supporters and donors who have made it possible for her to be independent in life.

Overall, these 3-4 monthds in which we conducted our project works were very successful and were met with great expectations. With this, I would like to say thanks to all the well-wishers who have made it possible. Without them, this task would have been impossible.

Please continue to follow our work in Nepal by visiting our website and social media. We thank you for you continued support and belied in our mission.

Many Thanks!!!

Training at JHF

A woman receiving training in her village
A woman receiving training in her village

Woman, especially in rural areas are underprivileged. They are prevented from going to school for formal education, married off early and are often looked upon as some sort of burden. When they are married young without any formal education, they don`t have any skills to earn for themselves. This causes a huge problem in rural areas raising the risk of unsafe migration for work and women trafficking.

Journey Home Foundation Nepal, keeping this problem in mind, has initiated skill development and vocational training for women, so that they can earn for themselves. JHF provides them skill of sewing, cooking, beautician training etc.

We are providing trainning to 6-7 girls, and some of them have started working in their respective villages as well. Currently most of the girls choice of skill development has been sewing followed by cook training. As sewing is seen more lucrative source of income in village, the girls are choosing the sewing classes.

We hope that we can provide them the very best training programs for their welfare and also for their society.

We are thankful for you help and support. And we hope to get such continuous dedication in the future.

Cheers!!
