We need a donor: the cure for leukemia is in each

Dear friends!

For many years, we have been developing hematopoietic cells donation together with you. Our goal is to make sure that every patient who needs help can find a compatible donor.

At the beginning of the year, we received a request to find a donor for Tatiana.

Tatiana  was born and raised in Yakutia. Since childhood, she loved airplanes and dreamed of working at the airport. The dream came true: Tatiana was offered a position in the aviation meteorological center of Yakutsk, where she worked for 15 years.

Then Tatiana moved to live in Finland. In a foreign country, it was not easy at first: she had to learn the language, look for a job.

"I attended language courses, then to practical classes, worked as a kitchen worker for free to receive benefits. But it never scared me. Loneliness was scarier," said Tatiana.

Now our heroine is 59 years old. She raised her daughter, learned the language, overcame all the difficulties and was able to get a prestigious job.

"Here, as probably in any country, it is very important to have a job. For more than 10 years, I have been working for a large, well-known company that has branches all over the world. I'm an electronics assembler. I had to forget about meteorology and retrain. The company I work for is engaged in the production and testing of special construction equipment, " Tatiana said.

Life has returned to a stable course. It seemed that all the problems were over. Tatiana began to make plans and dream of grandchildren. But suddenly everything turned upside down.

Two years ago, Tatiana fell ill. It all started with blisters and a red rash, accompanied by severe itching. At first, she was sent to a dermatologist, although Tatiana understood that it was not an allergy,   “I felt something went wrong. My hemoglobin began to drop, it became difficult to climb the stairs, my muscles were very sore. A year ago, after a comprehensive examination, I was diagnosed with myelofibrosis. “ Tatiana can defeat disease only with a bone marrow transplant. To do this, she needs the closest possible genetic donor.

And, alas, so far, no potential donor in the world is suitable for her.

The only hope is if her genetic twin reads Tatiana's story and decides to join the Registry.

We strive to tell the story of Tatiana to as large an audience as possible, so we publish it in the media, in our social networks, in chats with our partners.

Dozens of people from different cities have already responded to our call to join the Registry. And we are sure there will be even more of them!

Thank you for helping to make Tatiana's healing possible!

Each of your donations is an opportunity to pay for the adding several new donors to the Registry’s database of bone marrow donors. Perhaps Tatiana's savior will be among them.

If you are moved by this story, please share it with your family, friends and work colleagues. If they follow your example and make a donation to attract new donors, the chances of Tatiana and hundreds of other patients will increase significantly.

Let's rid the world of leukemia together!

Summing up the results of 2020! Planning for 2021!

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!

Dear friends, we wish you a Happy New Year and Merry Christmas!

Let distress and sorrows remain in the past! Let only success and happy moments await us in 2021!

The year 2020 became a test for all of us! Covid19, lockdown, natural disasters and crises have tested our strength. And it united us even more!

Thank you, dear benefactors, for being with us! Thanks to your financial help, we were able to switch to online mode and help save the lives of patients with leukemia!

During the pandemic, we completely switched to remote recruitment of donors. To join the Registry, it is now enough to fill out a questionnaire on our website, then receive documents and cotton swabs by courier for getting a smear to determine compatibility parameters, and then send a sample by mail to the Registry.

The Karelian Registry has grown by 190 potential donors, and we have received 62 requests for donor search from around the world.

In seven cases, donors from our Registry turned out to be compatible with patients, but were not selected by clinics for bone morrow cell donation.

Thanks to the fact that the whole world has moved online, we have become closer to our benefactors, partners and beneficiaries:

  • Conducted online concerts in support of bone marrow donation.
    • Organized marathons to raise funds for the Registry’s development.
    • Developed our social media networks and YouTube channel.
    • Participated in grant competitions and specialized conferences.
    • Found new friends and partners

All this gives us inspiration for 2021!

We have ambitious plans:

• Launch of a new website of the Registry.

• Launch of a powerful information campaign and a series of events to attract new bone marrow donors.

We hope to increase the Registry by 2000 people in 2021!!! More potential donors - more chances to save the life of a particular patient!

In the implementation of these big plans, we will need your help and support more than ever!

Let’s rid the world of leukemia together in 2021!

Congratulations on World Bone Marrow Donor Day!

#WMDD2020
#WMDD2020

Dear friends, we congratulate you on the World Day of Bone Marrow Donors!

The holiday has been celebrated since 2015, bringing together 106 organizations from 59 countries and 37 million bone marrow donors.

This is your and our holiday, dear benefactors! Thanks to your donations, the Registry recruits new bone marrow donors and pays for their examination. You are our pillars and foundation!

World Bone Marrow Donor Day is a celebration for hundreds of thousands of leukemia patients who have recovered thanks to donors and who hope, hope that they will find a matching donor and defeat the deadly disease. The Holiday gives hope for life! And we together with you give them such hope!

On the eve of the World Bone Marrow Donor Day, we have traditionally organized a campaign to recruit new donors.

Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic,  we mastered to hold remote recruiting campaigns. We value the health of our volunteers and donors, therefore, we take precautions: we offer donors to fill out questionnaires on our website, and if there is no medical withdrawal in the given information, we send them original documents and sets of sticks for taking a swab from the oral cavity by courier or mail.

Since almost all organizations in Russia resumed their work in August and September, we invited them to participate in our campaigns and encourage their employees to donate. There are already interim results: employees of the regional TV channel joined the Registry and made a news report about it. We are also negotiating with several other companies.

At the same time, we are actively engaged in non-public work: we conduct additional medical examinations of donors who joined the register before 2015 and work on requests to search for donors from other countries. By the way, over the years we have received 47 requests for bone marrow donors, and 42 of them from other countries. In August our donor passed the necessary tests, as he was compatible with a patient from another country. Perhaps, he can be the one who will save the patient's life. We hope that nothing will prevent him from doing this. Such stories are inspiring!

In conclusion, we would like to thank you for your support! Thanks to your donations, the Registry continues to grow!

And together we are helping to rid the world of leukemia!
