Congratulations on World Bone Marrow Donor Day!

#WMDD2020
#WMDD2020

Dear friends, we congratulate you on the World Day of Bone Marrow Donors!

The holiday has been celebrated since 2015, bringing together 106 organizations from 59 countries and 37 million bone marrow donors.

This is your and our holiday, dear benefactors! Thanks to your donations, the Registry recruits new bone marrow donors and pays for their examination. You are our pillars and foundation!

World Bone Marrow Donor Day is a celebration for hundreds of thousands of leukemia patients who have recovered thanks to donors and who hope, hope that they will find a matching donor and defeat the deadly disease. The Holiday gives hope for life! And we together with you give them such hope!

On the eve of the World Bone Marrow Donor Day, we have traditionally organized a campaign to recruit new donors.

Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic,  we mastered to hold remote recruiting campaigns. We value the health of our volunteers and donors, therefore, we take precautions: we offer donors to fill out questionnaires on our website, and if there is no medical withdrawal in the given information, we send them original documents and sets of sticks for taking a swab from the oral cavity by courier or mail.

Since almost all organizations in Russia resumed their work in August and September, we invited them to participate in our campaigns and encourage their employees to donate. There are already interim results: employees of the regional TV channel joined the Registry and made a news report about it. We are also negotiating with several other companies.

At the same time, we are actively engaged in non-public work: we conduct additional medical examinations of donors who joined the register before 2015 and work on requests to search for donors from other countries. By the way, over the years we have received 47 requests for bone marrow donors, and 42 of them from other countries. In August our donor passed the necessary tests, as he was compatible with a patient from another country. Perhaps, he can be the one who will save the patient's life. We hope that nothing will prevent him from doing this. Such stories are inspiring!

In conclusion, we would like to thank you for your support! Thanks to your donations, the Registry continues to grow!

And together we are helping to rid the world of leukemia!

We work in spite of COVID19!

Recruitment of donors
Recruitment of donors

Dear Friends!

The COVID19 pandemic continues, and we continue to work no matter what. Thanks to your support, we have been productive over the past 3 months.

First things first:

1. We accepted and processed 40 requests from different countries for bone marrow donors. Fortunately, for 2 inquiries we have compatible donors in our Registry. It means that 2 terminally ill patients have a chance of recovery. Our donors agreed to undergo the necessary examinations and are now waiting for a decision from the clinics in which the patients are located. We all hope for a happy ending!

2. We continue recruiting new donors. The COVID19 pandemic made us change all plans. We had to stop mass recruitment campaigns at universities and colleges, as well as in our office. Nevertheless, after a pause, we began to receive documents and samples from donors by mail. We also conducted remote recruitment of donors among employees of the construction hypermarket Leroy Merlen Petrozavodsk. Thanks to the manager of the hypermarket Ekaterina for help in recruiting! We definitely will use this experience in the future.

3. One of the very pleasant moments:  in May our Registry turned 19 years old! We had a very cool online concert in honor of our birthday. Our friends from the Art Space, wonderful musicians from Petrozavodsk and professionals from the video studio helped us to organize the concert. More than 1000 spectators joined us, and donors and benefactors from Russia, Germany, Thailand and Switzerland sent their congratulations. You can watch the recording of the concert on YouTube and subscribe to our channel.

In conclusion, we would like to thank you for your support! Thanks to your donations the Registry continues to grow. And together we help rid the world of leukemia.

We wish you all to stay safe and healthy in this challenging time! Take care of yourself and your loved ones!

You can help us to improve our work not only with your financial assistance, but also with your feedback about our activities.

The deeper the darkness, the brighter the light!

Work place at home
Work place at home

Dear friends!

Now we are all going through a very difficult period. The coronavirus pandemic threatens the lives of people all over the World. Governments, organizations, and thousands of people are working hard to stop the epidemic and help those affected. We thank them for their work and express our great respect!

The coronavirus made us work differently. But we have never stopped working, thanks to your support. We appreciate it a lot!

Like many other organizations, we have gradually moved online.

First of all, this refers to the recruitment of new donors. Until mid-March, we hosted donors in our offices in 2 cities. Later, one could join the Registry only sending an envelope with her/his samples by mail.

But at the end of March, we had to suspend this too, so that our donors would not put them in risk going to the post office.

We still accept online applications from people who would like to become potential donors, but we have to wait for going forward with them until the threat of the virus will go away.

At the end of March, we sent a batch of donors’ samples to the laboratory and hope that the results of typing will arrive in a few months.

In addition, we continue to accept donor searches requests. In 2020 we received twenty-two requests from different countries. On one request, our donor matched pretty well with a patient and now is being in reserve.

Second, because of the virus, we conduct all our information campaigns online. We don't give lectures about bone marrow donation in auditoriums as we did before, but we communicate and answer questions on social media.

Third, the quarantine allowed us to take a closer look at our internal work. We have updated the questionnaires and applications for potential donors on our website and introduce services for remote work with donors. We continue to learn how to do our work better, and we would like to mention here that we get a lot of useful information on GlobalGiving.

Fourth, we continue to collect donations on GlobalGiving. They help us to recruit new donors in the Registry: to pay for laboratory tests of samples, information materials and postal shipments.

Most recently we participated in the 2020 Little by Little March campaign held by GlobalGiving. During this campaign, GG increased each donation by 50%. Thank you to those of you who took part in this campaign! We also remind you that GlobalGiving currently doubles regular donations.

In general, we hope that as soon as the virus recedes, we can make our work even more effective.

You can help us to improve our work not only with your financial assistance, but also with your feedback about our activities.

Please tell us:

  • What would you like to know about us? What should we talk about in our reports?
  • Do you follow us on social media? If so, can you name them?
  • Would you like to help the Registry not only financially, but also as a volunteer?

In conclusion, we would like to thank you once again for the financial assistance that you provide us even in this difficult time. You inspire us to work harder in fighting leukemia and saving lives!

We wish you all to stay safe! Take care of yourself and your loved ones!
