Slum Aid Project's strategy is holistic, gender-sensitive, rights-based, multisectoral, and collaborative- heavily emphasizing participation of all stakeholders and capacity building at various levels, to create layers of protection for the beneficiaries. Slum Aid Project major goals are; To strengthen the effectiveness of community based structures and groups to demand their rights and to articulate their development needs. To generate and disseminate relevant information on life in Uganda's slums. To influence policy formulation and implementation to reflect the rights and needs of slum communities. To strengthen SAP's organizational infrastructure and policies to match SAP's internal and geographical shifts as well as the long-term fundraising partnerships. Slum Aid Project (SAP) is registered under the Non governmnet registration statute 1989 ( Registartion number S 5914/954). SAP has a tripartite structure comprising of the Annual General assembly that provides mandate to the organization and is a policy making organ, The steering committee which comprises of key slum members and volunteers, these work together with the secretariat as the policy implementing body. The secretariat comprises of the Executive Director and program officers working in conjunction with the SAP Key Community Volunteers (KCV's) SAP has a membership of 80 people. 7 Board members and 8 staff members. Slum Aid Project set out to target the most vulnerable groups living the slums, Initially SAP targeted women and children but has now started targeting men to consolidate her works. We estimate to have reached more than 1,000,000 people from our encounters both directly and indirectly. We have supported formation of support groups in the slum areas and they help in indexing conflict related cases, coordinating development related work and also information dissemination to people living in the slum areas. We now have a pool of trained slum volunteers who continue to offer free counseling services on various issues ranging from domestic to economic, social, and cultural, These issues include Human and legal rights education, Information dissemination, for example; Information on income generating activities, Awareness on HIV/AIDS, child abuse and child labour and many others. All programs are implemented in partnership with local government, multilateral organizations, and civil society. Programs are designed to carry out advocacy campaigns and communities are fully engaged.
