RC provides free sports leagues, coaching clinics, activity days and summer camps for refugee and local girls aged 6-18 in Jordan. Run by young women for young women, RC uses sport to instill confidence, strength and ambition in its participants, enabling them to develop leadership and teamwork skills. Vision Team-oriented games at all levels provide the psychosocial support necessary to improve self-esteem, strengthen peer relationships and foster leadership skills. Today, girls living in the Middle East have few opportunities to play sports. As such, RC targets girls living in the most underserved communities in Jordan, including refugees from Syria, Iraq, Sudan, and Palestine. It is our goal to continue to expand geographically across Jordan, in capacity and in type of sport. We hope to implement a variety of sport, aerobic and recreation programs across Jordan, beginning with young girls and continuing through their adolescence, as well as working with the adult women in their families including mothers, aunts, older sisters and neighbors. It is through continuous and sustained activity that the girls will experience the greatest benefits, and the most impact will follow as whole families and communities themselves see and believe in the benefits of sport for girls. Specific Aims Through RC programs, we aim to: Provide a safe and fun environment for girls and young women to socialize and become familiar with sport and physical activities. Cross-cultural and inter-cultural exchange - help girls and young women build social relationships, friendships and networks across different national, economic and religious backgrounds. Facilitate social inclusion and integration. Foster self-esteem, self-efficacy and confidence amongst girls and women. Provide opportunities to build life-skills, such as leadership, teamwork, positive competition and good sportsmanship. Enhance the health and well-being of participants. Increase levels of intrinsic motivation, effort and concentration. Encourage active participation from girls and women within families, the community and society. Provide a kinesthetic learning environment to develop motor skills and body awareness and control. Challenge gender norms and attitudes, particularly surrounding female participation in sport, within the communities RC serves. Empowering young women from marginalized communities to discover their own strength and ambition. Creating stronger mother-daughter bonds in new contexts.
