Unlike traditional community development models, which treat residents as passive beneficiaries, Haciendo Comunidad starts from the premise that every community holds assets, relationships, knowledge, and leadership that can be mobilized to strengthen collective wellbeing and drive lasting transformation. Through participatory processes, leadership development, collective action, and public space activation, residents identify shared priorities, co-create solutions, and build the capacity to manage and improve their neighborhoods over time. Rather than delivering solutions to communities, the model equips communities to become agents of their own development.
