Our vision is to inspire through music, and to allow our listeners to “hear things differently”. We specialise in historical performance and recordings of early music and have a world-class reputation for excellence and creativity. We collaborate with other organisations and venues to commission and premiere new compositions for historical instruments. Our ensemble is led by Music Director John Butt and Associate Director Nicolas Mulroy. We work with some 30 outstanding Principals and regular soloists from a pool of around 150 freelance musicians from around the UK and sometimes abroad. Our Learning & Participation team delivers an annual schools workshops programme in seven local authorities in Scotland, reaching over 4000 children, with a focus on areas of socio-economic deprivation. We also organise a range of vocal and instrument clinics and choral workshops. We are committed to making our concerts accessible to a wide range of audiences, and deliver relaxed performances in community spaces, provide affordable ticket options, BSL interpretation at some concerts, free access to open rehearsals, and regularly review the accessibility of our venues and materials. We take our role as capacity-builders for the historical music sector extremely seriously. We are giving Royal Conservatoire of Scotland students opportunities to perform alongside Dunedin Consort musicians. Our Bridging the Gap programme (the subject of this application) supports and develops young professional singers with a Scottish connection over the course of a year, and we are partners in Intrada alongside four other European ensembles, supporting early-career instrumentalists into the historic practice sector.
