The organization was established to address the growing challenges faced by rural and peri-urban communities that continue to experience inadequate access to clean and safe water, poor sanitation facilities, and limited hygiene awareness. These conditions contribute to waterborne diseases, poor health, school absenteeism, environmental degradation, and increased vulnerability among women and children. Wells of Life Tanzania works to provide practical and sustainable solutions that improve public health, promote dignity, and strengthen community resilience. The mission of Wells of Life Tanzania is centered on ensuring that every orphan and vulnerable child has the opportunity to live in a healthy, safe, and supportive environment with access to clean water, sanitation, hygiene services, and education. The organization believes that access to safe water and sanitation is a fundamental human right and an essential foundation for social and economic development. To achieve its mission, Wells of Life Tanzania implements sustainable water supply programmes that increase access to safe and reliable water sources in underserved communities. These interventions include the construction of hand-dug and drilled wells, rainwater harvesting systems, gravity flow water schemes, and spring protection projects. The organization also supports schools and children's homes with improved water infrastructure to create safer and healthier learning environments for children. In addition to water supply, Wells of Life Tanzania promotes improved sanitation and hygiene practices through community-based interventions that encourage behaviour change, environmental cleanliness, and disease prevention. The organization supports School Health Clubs, household sanitation improvements, Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), and Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (PHAST) programmes. These initiatives help reduce open defecation, improve hygiene behaviour, and prevent waterborne diseases within communities. The organization further promotes ecological sanitation technologies that safely convert waste into organic manure, contributing to environmental protection, improved sanitation, and increased agricultural productivity. Through these initiatives, communities are empowered to adopt sustainable practices that improve both health and livelihoods. Community empowerment and participation are central to the mission of Wells of Life Tanzania. The organization works closely with communities using participatory approaches that encourage local ownership, accountability, and sustainability of WASH interventions. Wells of Life Tanzania supports the formation and strengthening of Water and Sanitation Committees (WSCs), Village Resource Persons (VRPs), and local leadership structures to ensure effective management and long-term sustainability of water and sanitation facilities. Capacity building also remains a key priority within the organization's mission. Wells of Life Tanzania provides training on Solar Water Disinfection (SODIS), household water treatment, sanitation management, hygiene promotion, and environmental conservation. Through education and practical skills development, communities are empowered to improve their health conditions and reduce vulnerability to preventable diseases. The organization integrates a Human Rights-Based Approach (HRBA) into all its programmes and operations by promoting participation, inclusion, accountability, equity, and non-discrimination. Wells of Life Tanzania is committed to ensuring that marginalized groups, including women, children, and vulnerable households, are actively involved in decision-making processes and benefit equally from development interventions. Since its establishment, Wells of Life Tanzania has implemented programmes in Temeke District in Dar es Salaam, Pwani Region, Mbeya Region, and Kilosa District, with plans to expand to Lindi Region and other underserved areas in Tanzania. Through partnerships, community engagement, and sustainable development approaches, the organization continues to contribute to improved public health, poverty reduction, environmental sustainability, and social wellbeing. Overall, the mission of Wells of Life Tanzania is to create healthier, empowered, and self-reliant communities where orphans and vulnerable children can thrive with dignity through access to safe water, improved sanitation, hygiene education, and sustainable community development opportunities.
