The IOM's work involves ensuring the orderly and humane management of migration; promoting international cooperation on migration issues; helping to find practical solutions to migration problems; and providing humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, whether they are refugees, internally displaced persons, or uprooted individuals. The IOM Constitution explicitly recognizes the link between migration and economic, social, and cultural development, as well as respect for the right to freedom of movement.
