We create a safe, inclusive space where people can learn, repair, and make things that matter, both for themselves and for their community. Through hands-on training and real-world repair work, we transform enforced waiting time into meaningful activity. Participants gain practical skills, confidence, and structure by fixing everyday items such as bikes, electronics, and household goods, while directly meeting urgent needs within the refugee and local community. Our mission is not only to teach skills for the future, but to enable contribution in the present. By combining learning with service, Makerspace Lesvos challenges the narrative of passivity and dependency often imposed on displaced people. We believe that everyone, regardless of legal status, deserves access to tools, knowledge, and the opportunity to be useful, creative, and self-determined. In the long term, Makerspace Lesvos strengthens individual resilience and community capacity by fostering collaboration, mutual support, and sustainable repair practices. We work toward a future in which refugees are recognized not as burdens, but as skilled, capable people who actively shape their own lives and contribute meaningfully wherever they are.
