Established in 2006, Equate Scotland is a Scottish government-funded programme with the strategic objectives of tackling underrepresentation of women and inequality in science, technology, engineering, environment (natural and built) and mathematics (STEM). The programme is hosted by Edinburgh Napier University with the objective of increasing participation and advancement of women in STEM through training, advocacy, partnerships with employers and higher education institutions, active research and building peer to peer networks. The programme's vision is 'to create a world in which women flourish in a diverse and inclusive Science, Technology, Engineering, Environmental (Natural and Built), and Mathematics ecosystem'. Our Mission is advancing the professional development and progression of women in STEM and collaborating with organisations who share our values to be part of the solution to create an equitable STEM ecosystem. Our activities are largely divided into four major themes as per the outcomes noted in Equate's Theory of change. 1. Women STEM students self-report an increase in knowledge and confidence, on career progression related activities. 2. Women within the STEM labour market have improved access to career development and progression opportunities. 3. Women's education and workplace needs have greater visibility with Equate contributing to an inclusive STEM ecosystem. 4. STEM employers self-report an increase in knowledge and confidence in implementing inclusion measures in the workplace and supporting the workforce.
